ABC News reports on 419 scams from Nigeria


Some time ago, ABC news did a report on Nigerian 419 advanced fee fraud scams in Nigeria. A good video to watch of you are curious on to how these scams work.

    Africa is corrupt today because of it´s corrupt and selfish leaders who are only thinking for themselfs and their family only.

    Lets face the fact that the big scammers are the Nigeria leaders who are banking the Nigerian oil money overseas while it´s citizen are living under less than a dollar per day. And the law is aginst catching and putting them in the prison. Nobody should blame those guys.If they really want to end scam, the government of Nigeria should think of making Nigeria to be like the Western world where every citizen can work and earn good money.

    hold on a minute. while i completely agree with the fact that 419 is rampant in my country and i heavily criticise nigerian leaders and to some extent the nigerian mentality, the narrator is absolutely out of order to paint a picture to the american public of nigeria as a nation teeming with louts and all desperately poor to the point of scamming. wtf…, has he been to the country before? did he know where lagos was before he went to its slums and declared it a corrupt ridden disgrace of a city

  10. its bad that these people are scamming, but white people scam the most. the same way america scams africa by giving them IMF loans, and world bank loans, controlling their economy so that they send the west cheap goods while the poor farmers who produce the goods remain poor. and the western farmers get subsidies from the govt so they can afford to flood africa with goods. yes you are right, God works in mysterious ways, its a viscious circle of lies and deceipt, and its black and white.

    But the scammed Americans are not innocent. They think their’ fee is helping to launder money out of Nigeria. It takes a thief to catch a thief!

It’s funny when the abc reporter said that the average income in Lagos is a dollar a week, a dollar a week when converted to Naira (Nigerian currency) is about 120 Naira, based on the current exchange rate, and so, a months income is about $4 or 500 Naira, Dear reporter, don’t be so stupid, nobody can survive in Nigeria on 500 naira a month, to give you an example, a bottle of coke is about 80 naira, the nigerian minimum wage is 6500 naira, even that is not enough to survive Lagos.
